Hi, I'm Rosie and I'm a Gemini vegetarian...

For the sake of first posts, let's just pretend that my audience isn't a handful of my closest friends and family, who have been forced into reading this and already know everything about me... I feel like the first post is always the most difficult and uncomfortable part of a blog to write - picture me sat at an old fashioned writing desk, continuously starting, screwing up, and throwing into a fire the beginning of some momentous letter... It's also particularly awkward when you are not of 'influencer' status, and currently have a following of zero; so are basically just talking to yourself, about yourself. Good times. Writing the big first post reminds me of the scene from 'Legally Blonde' where they have to go around a circle and introduce themselves, and everyone uses it as an opportunity to show off their academic superiority and accomplishments. All apart from Elle, who, after introducing herself (and her chihuahua, Bruiser), goes on to chaotically discuss her sorority, Cameron Diaz, and of course, the colour pink. I am the Elle Woods of this situation. But here we are, and this post isn't going to write itself...

I'm Rosie, a third year Education with Psychology student at the University of Bath - I am also, in fact, an actual Gemini vegetarian (not just a fun movie reference, huh?). For the third year of my degree, I have decided to take a placement year (classic, she's taking yet another year out of uni). However, this time I am heading out to Thailand, to work at the British International School, Phuket (BISP). I will be spending a full academic year at the school (August 2020-June 2021), working as an intern in the art, English and psychology departments, as well as helping out with boarding duties and day to day school life. It's an incredible opportunity that I'm really excited about, and this will also be my first time visiting Thailand! I've added a link to the school's website below so you can check it out...
As it stands, I'm due to start my placement at the beginning of August, however, with complications related to COVID-19, things are a little bit up in the air at the moment. I'm currently waiting for the Thai Embassy to reopen so that I can apply for my visa, and Phuket's borders are closed to international flights until further notice... Overall, not the most straightforward start to the year, but I'm staying positive and hoping that all will come together in the end!
Anyway, enough of the serious stuff - I should probably explain why I've decided to start this blog, and what exactly I plan to do with it... It will partly act as a series of postcards home, so that I can keep family, friends, and anyone else; who (God knows why) may be interested; up to date with my internship, travels, and general life out in Thailand. But my main reason for starting this blog is that I love to write, and needed some kind of an outlet for my random scribblings. Just a heads up, it is also quite likely to become some kind of shrine to Pad Thai (if you know you know, but I don't think it really needs that much explanation...).
So that's that. Thanks (and congratulations) for staying with me to this point, I hope you all enjoy, and don't worry, I'll remember you when I'm famous.
Rosie x
